Product description
Dowel pins are versatile components that can be used for a variety of purposes such as pivots, hinges, shafts, jigs, and fixtures. These pins can hold or locate parts in a precise manner. It is important to note that for a tight fit, the size of the hole should be either equal to or slightly smaller than the diameter indicated. The breaking strength of the Dowel pins is determined by measuring double shear, which is the force necessary to break the pin into three pieces. By utilizing these pins, it is possible to achieve stability and accuracy in assembly and construction work. Therefore, they are highly recommended for use in various industries.
When pins are accompanied by a material certificate, customers receive a lot number and test report that can be traced back to the specific batch.
Steel pins are highly regarded for their strength, especially in the realm of dowel pins. In terms of corrosion resistance, pins with a black-oxide finish offer a certain level of protection. It's worth noting that steel pins are typically precision ground, excluding those with a diameter of 1/32". For enhanced durability and wear resistance, 1144 steel pins, also known as stressproof steel pins, are a preferred choice. On the other hand, 1215 carbon steel pins are known for their ease of machining, making them a convenient option.
When it comes to pins, stainless steel is the way to go if you want maximum protection against corrosion and oxidation. Unlike steel pins, stainless steel pins are less prone to rust and other forms of damage. However, if you want even better protection, you can opt for passivated pins which offer enhanced corrosion resistance.
Precision is also a key consideration when it comes to pins. Most stainless steel pins are precision ground, ensuring that they are perfectly shaped and sized for their intended use. The only exception to this is 1/64" diameter pins, which are not precision ground.
If you're looking for a balance of strength and corrosion resistance, then 18-8 stainless steel pins are a good choice. They are moderately corrosion-resistant and offer adequate levels of strength for most applications. They may also be mildly magnetic.
For even better corrosion resistance, 316 stainless steel pins are the way to go. They are the most corrosion-resistant of all the stainless steel pins we offer. They may also be mildly magnetic.
Finally, for applications that require wear resistance, 416 stainless steel pins are a solid choice. They are more wear-resistant than other stainless steel pins, but not quite as corrosion-resistant. They are also magnetic.
